THE Princess of Wales is heading to Italy for her first solo official royal working trip in four years.

Kate, 44, is flying to Reggio Emilia in the country’s north for two days next week for her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

The city is famed for its approach to children’s development focusing on nurturing environments and loving relationships — which ties in with the princess’s own interests.

The visit to Italy marks a new chapter in her recovery from cancer.

She was diagnosed in 2024 before undergoing chemo and announced she was in remission in January last year.

Sources said she is looking forward to her trip — four years after her last foreign solo trip to Denmark in 2022.

Today she is due at the University of East London to launch her Foundations for Life guide.

In a foreword to the guide, she wrote: “By age five, our brains have already grown to 90 per cent of their adult size . . . making early childhood a critical window for developing the social and emotional skills that become the bedrock of lifelong wellbeing.”

Meanwhile, on a visit to the Yorkshire Dales, Prince William was told by farmers they face the “most uncertain” period in a long time.

He visited Crow Trees livestock farm in Swaledale, North Yorkshire, which is run by Adam Hunter, 37, and his wife Leanne.

William arrived with a box of cakes from a nearby bakery that included a Twix cake — which he called a “calorie grenade”, adding: “If I ate that I’d be in the gym for a week.”

Asked how he likes his tea, he asked for it “the Yorkshire way”.

The Prince asked if they are “feeling good about farming at the moment”.

Adam told him: “Uncertain. It’s the most uncertain it’s been for a long time.”

The couple recently created a bunkbarn as part of diversification efforts that can sleep up to 27 visitors such as walkers.

They were joined by families from nearby farms: Michael Waggett, 36, and wife Hannah, 36, and James Metcalfe, 23, who farms with his dad Philip, 53.

The Prince said: “You have got to be farmers, accountants, entrepreneurs, environmentalists. You’ve got a lot on your plate. Sharing problems really helps.”

Michael told him: “We don’t want to be the last generation [of farmers] but at the moment it could be a possibility.”

William asked James and his dad: “Generationally, do you see eye to eye?” James said “mostly”.

After chatting about how they approach the changing landscape, William said: “You clearly have a good relationship. Not every generation I see has that.”
